Founder & Chairman, DADUS
Major General (Retd.) Professor Dr. A. R. Khan is a visionary leader and lifelong advocate for poverty alleviation, social welfare, and community development. Despite his illustrious career, he leads a life of simplicity, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to improving the lives of underprivileged communities. Even in retirement, Dr. Khan remains deeply involved in humanitarian efforts, working relentlessly to uplift marginalized populations across Bangladesh. As the Founder and Chairman of DADUS (Daridra Durikoron Sangstha), Dr. Khan has spearheaded numerous initiatives focused on education, healthcare, poverty reduction, self-employment, and women’s financial empowerment. Under his leadership, DADUS continues to play a vital role in fostering sustainable development and social inclusion. Dr. Khan’s legacy of service extends well beyond DADUS. He is a Founding Member of the National Heart Foundation, a Life Member of the Bangladesh Red Cross and Red Crescent, and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. He has also chaired several prominent organizations, including the Human Development Foundation, Kaderia Foundation, and the Professor Khan Abdur Razzak–Gulshan Ara Foundation. Through these foundations, he has established a 30-bed non-profit hospital in his native village and a free primary school in Dhaka for disadvantaged children. He is also the Founding Chairman of the Khan Welfare Foundation, an organization registered and approved by the Government of Bangladesh. In recognition of the critical importance of maternal and child health, Dr. Khan founded the Mother and Child Hospital to expand medical access in rural areas. He also operates the Free Friday Clinic in DOHS, Dhaka, offering regular healthcare services to those in need. His contributions further extend to infrastructure development, including road construction and educational advancement. Notably, he founded Padma Degree College in Dohar, which is now registered under the MPO (Monthly Pay Order) scheme. Throughout his professional journey, Dr. Khan has held several prestigious positions. He served as Chairman of Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, Director of IFIC Bank for nine years, and President of the Lions Club of Dhaka Prominent. He also served as Director General of both CMH Hospital and BIRDEM Hospital and currently acts as the Ombudsman at BIRDEM. In addition, he held advisory roles in Health & Family Affairs and Religious Affairs, reflecting his diverse contributions to national development. Dr. Khan firmly believes that education and financial empowerment are fundamental to building a healthier, more equitable society. Vice Chairman, DADUS
Major General (Retd.) K M Omar Hasan is a distinguished military officer, renowned neurologist, and accomplished healthcare leader, recognized for his significant contributions to military medicine, neurology, and social welfare in Bangladesh. Dr. Hasan holds an MBBS degree, an FCPS in Medicine, and an FRCP from Glasgow, along with specialized training in neurology. These academic and professional qualifications have established him as one of the country's leading experts in neurological disorders. During his distinguished medical career, he served as a Consultant in the Department of Neurology at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka, where he provided advanced care to both military and civilian patients. He also served as the personal physician to the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, a role that highlights his expertise and the trust placed in him at the highest levels of national leadership. Beyond his medical and military achievements, Major General Hasan has been a prominent figure in the healthcare and social development sectors. Alongside his equally accomplished spouse, he became part of the first Major General couple in the history of the Bangladesh Armed Forces—a milestone in the country's defense services. He has actively contributed to various organizations and initiatives dedicated to national development. As Vice Chairman of DADUS (Daridra Durikoron Sangstha) he has played a pivotal role in securing the organization's registration as a government-approved NGO under the NGO Bureau of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). His leadership and strategic guidance continue to drive the organization's mission of poverty alleviation, healthcare access, and community empowerment. Currently, Major General Hasan serves as the Chairman of Lubana General Hospital and is the former Chairman of Hitech Hospital. Through these roles, he has been instrumental in expanding and modernizing healthcare services in Bangladesh. In his ongoing work with DADUS, Major General Hasan remains deeply committed to medical outreach, social welfare, and uplifting underserved communities across the country. His legacy is one of excellence, service, and a steadfast dedication to improving lives through both healthcare and humanitarian efforts.
General Secretary, DADUS
Obaidur Rahman Khan serves as the General Secretary of DADUS (Daridra Durikoron Sangstha), where he plays a pivotal role in defining the organization's strategic direction and overseeing its operational framework. With over 15 years of dedicated service alongside the Founder and Chairman, Major General (Retd.) Professor Dr. A. R. Khan, Mr. Khan has been instrumental in transforming DADUS into a professionally managed and impact-driven non-governmental organization. In his professional capacity, Mr. Khan holds the position of Head of Branch Operations at IFIC Bank, Banani Branch. His leadership acumen and expertise in program management, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and social development have earned him recognition both in the financial sector and within the development community. Beyond DADUS, Mr. Khan has been actively involved in a number of community-based initiatives. He previously served as President of the Bondhu Kollan Society and was an Executive Member of the Graduate Association of Dohar. Also, Executive Member of the Mother and Child Hospital of Dohar. His consistent participation in social welfare activities reflects his unwavering commitment to grassroots empowerment and societal development. Under his stewardship, DADUS has undergone a remarkable transformation from a previously disorganized structure to a well-structured, efficiently managed organization. His strategic foresight has been critical in streamlining operations, improving internal systems, and ensuring the organization's long-term sustainability and impact. Academically, Mr. Khan holds both a Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s degree in Accounting from Jagannath University, Dhaka. His academic background, combined with his practical leadership experience, equips him to contribute effectively to policy development, operational planning, and capacity building within the organization. Driven by a strong sense of service and a deep belief in social equity, Obaidur Rahman Khan remains committed to expanding the reach, efficiency, and effectiveness of DADUS. His vision is to see the organization evolve as a leading force for poverty alleviation, working to uplift marginalized communities and promote an inclusive, empowered society across Bangladesh.
Treasurer, DADUS
Mr. Abul Bashir Khan is a highly accomplished finance and management professional with over 30 years of extensive experience in financial management, budgeting, taxation, internal control, and regulatory compliance. He currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of SMC Enterprise Limited, a leading social marketing organization in Bangladesh, where he plays a critical role in overseeing the company’s financial strategy and operations. Before joining SMC, Mr. Khan held key leadership positions across several renowned institutions. He served as Director of Finance & Procurement at the Social Development Foundation (SDF) under the Ministry of Finance, and as Chief of Finance & Accounts at NGO Forum for Public Health. Earlier in his career, he contributed significantly to organizations such as Caritas Bangladesh, SQ Group, and Monno Group of Industries, where he began his professional journey. A Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB), Mr. Khan holds a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Dhaka. He is also affiliated with several international and national professional bodies, including The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global-USA. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, he is actively engaged in capacity-building efforts through training, public speaking, and writing. Mr. Khan serves on various committees of ICMAB and regularly contributes articles and insights on financial and business matters to national newspapers and media platforms. In his role as Treasurer of DADUS (Daridra Durikoron Sangstha) Mr. Khan brings a wealth of financial expertise and governance experience to the organization. His strategic financial oversight ensures transparency, accountability, and sustainable resource management within DADUS. He is also a Life Member of the organization, reflecting his longstanding commitment to social development and humanitarian service. Member, Executive Board, DADUS
Khan Mohammad Babar Ashraful Huq is a distinguished media and corporate professional with an extensive career spanning journalism, banking, and communications. As a Member of the Executive Board at Daridra Durikoron Sangstha (DADUS), he brings a unique combination of private sector leadership, media expertise, and strategic insight to support the organization’s mission of sustainable development and social empowerment. Born on March 15, 1956, Mr. Huq is the son of Khan Mohammad Serajul Huq and Anowara Huq. He pursued an exemplary academic journey, completing his SSC from Armanitola Government High School and HSC from Notre Dame College. He earned both his BSS (Honours) and MSS in Sociology from the University of Dhaka and furthered his professional qualifications with a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Media Management from the Bangladesh Institute of Mass Communication. Mr. Huq began his career as Country Development Manager at Swiss Air, where he gained valuable experience in international operations and strategic planning. He later joined City Bank Ltd., embarking on a successful tenure in banking, where he held various leadership roles and made notable contributions in institutional growth and customer service. Parallel to his corporate career, Mr. Huq has remained deeply engaged in journalism. He was a founding member of the national daily Manabzamin and currently serves as its Managing Editor. In this role, he upholds principles of editorial independence, journalistic integrity, and social accountability. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Media Printers, a publishing and communications company specializing in innovative media solutions. Mr. Huq is actively involved in a range of social and professional initiatives. He serves as an Advisor to the Tourism Development Association of Bangladesh and the Dhaka Journalist Forum. His commitment to education and community development is reflected in his service as a Life Member and former Joint Secretary of the Dhaka University Alumni Association, as well as a Founder Member of Padma Government College. As a member of the DADUS Advisory Board, Mr. Huq contributes his extensive expertise in media, corporate governance, and social development. Mohammad Ilias Hossain serves as an Member, Executive Board at DADUS (Daridra Durikoron Sangstha),where he contributes his expertise in leadership, strategic planning, and research-driven development. As a 27th BCS Cadre (Education) and currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry under BCS General Education at Chandpur Government Mohila College, Mr. Hossain brings a strong academic and analytical foundation to his role in the organization. Although relatively new to the development sector, Mr. Hossain is deeply committed to driving positive social change and creating sustainable impact. His values and vision align closely with the mission of DADUS—to uplift marginalized communities and work toward a poverty-free Bangladesh. He believes in serving society with dignity, integrity, and purpose, using strategic insight and evidence-based approaches to support transformative initiatives. Mr. Hossain's academic background includes a BSc (Hons.) and MS in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka, one of the country’s premier institutions. He completed his early education at Khilgaon Government High School and Dhaka College, which laid the groundwork for his disciplined and research-oriented mindset. Within DADUS, Mr. Hossain plays an active role in policy formulation, program strategy, and community engagement, ensuring that initiatives are grounded in both scientific analysis and human-centered development goals. His contributions help strengthen the organization’s mission to empower underserved populations through education, healthcare, and economic development.
