Project Description

The Cataract Surgery & Eye Care Project is a joint initiative of DADUS and Charity Organization of Bangladeshi Arizonans (COBA), dedicated to bringing essential eye care closer to people who face financial and social barriers to treatment. Through an eye camp in Dohar, Dhaka, approximately 300 people received eye examinations, allowing patients with cataract-related vision problems to be identified and assessed. Following clinical evaluation, 61 patients were selected for cataract surgery, and by the end of February 2026, surgery had been completed for all 61 selected patients.

Beyond the numbers, the initiative represents a simple but meaningful commitment: that financial hardship should not stand between a person and the opportunity to receive necessary eye care. By connecting community-based screening with access to surgical treatment, DADUS and COBA are working together to reduce barriers to healthcare and support people in regaining greater independence in their everyday lives. The project reflects DADUS’s broader commitment to serving underserved communities with dignity, compassion and practical action, while demonstrating how purposeful partnerships can turn shared resources into meaningful change. For every person reached, the goal is not simply better vision, but a greater opportunity to live, work and participate with confidence."
